CARBURETORS: Cleaning your carburetor involves removing the air box and spraying carburetor cleaner around the choke and throttle linkages as well as inside the carburetor itself. The fuel pump usually located underneath the car, serves to pull gasoline from the tank and deliver it under constant pressure to the carburetor or the fuel injection port. The fuel pump is a very low maintenance item, but when it does go bad, it tends to go bad in one of two ways. It can either begin pumping raw gas into the crank case which you will notice by having an unusually high oil level, or it will start to leak itself onto the ground. In either of these cases, you will need to replace the fuel pump as a unit.
